Fiction

Cleo de 5 a 7 (adil)

Banger french new wave movie about a woman who gets a fortune that she will die soon. There’s not like any major conflict but it’s really well shot and edited and does a great job getting you in the character’s head. A classic.

The Holy Mountain (adil)

Extremely good movie. Highly recommend. It’s a psychedelic trip that’s disguised as a satire of how Christianity has been perverted by authoritarianism. The movie is filled to the brim with esoteric references to the occult. The set design and costume work is second to none. The music puts you in a trance. The cinematography is hypnotic. Jodorowski is a master of his craft in every regard. Be warned: This movie is fucking weird. Sean, if you’re reading this, you’ll love this one.

Taxi Driver (adil)

The ultimate male loneliness movie. It’s my favourite movie. Hypnotic, intriguing, and relatable. Everything in this movie from the score, to the performances, to the cinematography is kino. Here’s to hoping for another collaboration between Schrader and Scorsese in the future.

Videodrome (adil)

Peak Canadian horror. This basically predicted porn addiction and is a super entertaining watch. Cronenberg’s movies are all about flying too close to the sun and changing into our worst nightmares and this rivals The Fly as his best movie.

House (☨)

No, not the cane guy. The Japanese one from 1977. If you know me, this makes a ton of sense. A bunch of girls go to a house and the house attacks them in whacky, gory ways. Visual treat.

Hellraiser (☨) I toucha da cube

Buffalo ‘66 (alx)

Kaz showed me this film, has always been my favorite. Vincent Gallo is unironically a narcissistic crazy person (love his site tho) which works in favor of this film ironically. But somehow he cooked on this one. Captures the mania of male attraction/obsession in to me what is a very real way. With an ending that I think Gallo regrets now but for me shows that underneath the drama and the rat race there is something real, that means something, despite how much we create a disaster out of our relationships. Anyway good film, great for a slumber party hahaha.

Good Time (alx)

People don’t talk about this film enough. With a great soundtrack by OPN and just some amazing visuals. Also Robert Pattinson plays literally me in this film. Safdies brothers best work in my opinion.

Blade Runner 2049 (q)

I just love the visuals in this movie. One of the few live action films that does cyberpunk right :).
